Lesson 8: I couldn’t help it.
A: What was that terrible noise?
B: I’m sorry. I just dropped a stack of plates.
A: Were you hurt?
B: Fortunately, no. But I’m terribly sorry.
A: I’m glad you’re not hurt, but why did you drop the plates?
B: I couldn’t help it. The plates were too greasy and slippery.
A: You’ve got to be careful next time!
B: I will. I will. Trust me!
